Ads Checklist.

Stop guessing what is broken. Use these paid media and outbound checklists to diagnose leaks in your ad accounts, tracking, creative, launch setup, and handoff.

Budget and Bidding

Conversions are being tracked by geo, device, age, gender, income, and observation audiences.If the account has customer data, use it to remove low-quality pockets and avoid training bidding on junk conversions. Automated bid strategies only run where there is enough conversion volume.Maximize conversions, Maximize conversion value, and Target CPA need enough signal. If the campaign produces fewer than 5 conversions per day, consolidate or use tighter manual control.

Ad Copy and Extensions

All relevant extensions are added to ads.Sitelinks, callouts, structured snippets, lead forms, and location assets improve visibility and give buyers more useful paths. Ad copy is A/B tested with at least two meaningful variants.Test message angle, proof, offer, and CTA instead of making tiny wording changes that do not change buyer intent. Ad copy performance is reviewed and weak ads are replaced.Low CTR and low conversion ads should not keep consuming impressions once enough data exists. Ad copy meets platform policy requirements.Policy issues pause learning, create disapprovals, and slow down launch cycles.

Landing Pages & Conversion Tracking

Primary and secondary conversions are separated.Macro conversions should train the campaign. Micro conversions can stay visible without confusing bidding. The landing page has a clear form or conversion action.The next step should be visible, specific, and easy to complete on desktop and mobile. The thank-you path, CRM handoff, and notification flow work.A lead that does not reach sales cleanly is not a lead.

Targeting & Keywords

Large-country targeting is split by state, region, or priority market.Granular targeting makes performance easier to diagnose and budget easier to control. Location targeting uses Presence: people in or regularly in your targeted locations.Presence or interest can leak spend into irrelevant geography. Negative keywords are maintained in Search campaigns.Search terms need regular cleanup so spend does not drift into research, jobs, support, or low-intent traffic. Brand, competitor, and generic keywords are grouped separately.Each intent level needs separate budget, copy, reporting, and expectations. Ad groups are tightly themed around keyword categories.Mixed intent in one ad group lowers relevance and makes message matching weaker.

Campaign Settings

Search Partners and Display Network are disabled inside Search campaigns unless intentionally tested.Mixing networks makes performance harder to read and often lowers lead quality. Audience expansion and optimized targeting are disabled where precision matters.Expansion can create cheap-looking volume while moving away from the intended buyer. Irrelevant placements and devices are excluded.Apps, kids content, TV placements, and weak topics often waste budget. Auto-applied recommendations are disabled.Recommendations should be reviewed manually against business goals, not accepted blindly.

Analytics & Reporting

Data-driven attribution is selected where available.Attribution should reflect the full path instead of overweighting the last click. UTM tags and auto-tagging are set up.Campaign, ad group, creative, and keyword data should be readable in GA4 and CRM reporting. Google Analytics 4 and relevant product accounts are linked.Disconnected analytics blocks clean optimization and revenue visibility.

Budget and Bidding

Manual bidding is used when control matters.Automatic bidding can overpay for impressions before the account has clean conversion signal. Bids and budgets are reviewed by campaign, audience, and creative set.LinkedIn spend should be actively shaped around quality, not left at default settings.

Campaign Settings

Location is set to Permanent.Permanent location prevents accidental targeting of people only temporarily in a region. Average frequency is kept under control.Frequency around 5 or higher usually means creative fatigue and audience saturation need attention. Ad rotation is enabled and creative exposure is balanced.One creative should not absorb all delivery before the rest has useful signal.

Analytics & Reporting

Insight Tag is installed and firing.Without it, retargeting and conversion reporting are blind. Specific conversion events are tracked.Track the actions that matter: demo requests, qualified forms, important visits, and downstream CRM movement. Demographic reports are reviewed for waste.Seniority, function, company size, and industry reports should change targeting decisions.

Targeting

Entry, training, unpaid, and irrelevant seniorities are excluded.B2B spend should focus on people who can influence or make the decision. Irrelevant job titles and functions are excluded.Impressions from the wrong roles make CTR and CPL look worse and hide the real signal. Employees, competitors, customers, and recent purchasers are excluded.Obvious waste audiences should not sit inside prospecting campaigns.

Creative & Ad Copy

Each campaign has 4-5 live creatives.LinkedIn needs enough creative variation to fight fatigue and learn which angle works. Creative speaks to the exact persona and buying problem.Generic category copy underperforms when targeting is expensive.

Conversion Tracking

Pixel and Conversion API are active.Browser-only tracking is fragile. CAPI improves event quality and attribution stability. Standard events are mapped correctly.Lead, Purchase, CompleteRegistration, and custom conversions should represent real business actions. Conversions are event-based, not just page-view based.Page visits alone do not tell the algorithm what quality looks like.

Account Structure

Campaign objectives match the business goal.Traffic campaigns should not be used when the goal is leads or purchases. TOFU, MOFU, and BOFU audiences are separated where useful.Different buyer stages need different creative, budget, and success metrics. Spend limits and learning limitations are reviewed.Account constraints can silently stop the campaign from producing meaningful volume.

Creative

Creative variants test different hooks and formats.Static, UGC, proof-led, product-led, and objection-led assets should not be judged as one idea. Landing page message matches the ad promise.Click intent collapses when the page says something different than the ad. Fatigue is monitored by frequency, thumb-stop, CTR, and CPA movement.Creative should refresh before performance falls off a cliff.

Reporting

UTMs are present on every ad.Meta reporting alone is not enough to understand source quality in analytics or CRM. Lead quality is checked after the form submit.Cheap leads that never qualify should be treated as a campaign problem, not a sales problem.
